Time to Reboot…

I was officially restructured out of a job today…

I will actually be fully employed through the end of the year, with severance to follow for a few months beyond.

This is sure to be an interesting opportunity for me. I’ve basically worked for the same place (even through quite a few structural and ownership changes) over just about 8 years…

I’m completely open to what comes next and will need to think seriously about what that might be… My experiences will hopefully be a benefit, though I have no idea what the current job market is like.

So if you know of any opportunities, in wireless, entertainment, technology, marketing or advertising, this is one always-on marketing savvy technophile looking for work. You can email me directly (link on my sidebar or leave something in comments).

Time to work on my resume and spend some quality family time.

Wi-Fi Blackberry in Works

Research in Motion Ltd. is building BlackBerry messaging devices that run over wireless LANs, company officials confirmed last week.

RIM, of Waterloo, Ontario, has started testing BlackBerrys that can roam between 802.11, or Wi-Fi, WLANs and wide-area cellular networks.

“We’ve been working on Wi-Fi for a long time,” said Jim Balsillie, chairman and co-CEO of RIM. “We weren’t really planning to talk about it for a while, but it’s a bit predictable that we would do this—it’s just another transport.” [Technology News from eWEEK and Ziff Davis]

Portability Update…

According to T-Mobile, I’ll be up and running with my old number again by tomorrow afternoon. Everything is all set, though it did take some manual intervention to get the required corporate information (Tax ID etc…) from my Nextel account.

Music Retailer Seeks More Volume

Facing declining music sales, the Virgin Megastore chain is hoping new digital gadgetry will lure customers away from Internet file trading and into its stores. [Wired News]

Store based downloads… thought this was the idea in the pre-broadband era.

moblogging!

Finally got things going… Buzznet is in the blog. On the left side, you can now find some images taken in passing and in the moment. I’ll be shooting them on the go via my mobile.

The Subway

Subway BagpipeI snapped a shot of this guy while walking past this morning… fortunately my iPod was going so I did not have to hear the Bagpipe playing – yes the bag pipe! Sorry it’s blurry – I took it while walking and over my shoulder so I would not draw his attention…

At night I’ve been spotting “The Original Hambone player” have to capture that one for you later…

Looks like early next year will be when this is ready for prime-time in other larger markets.

Rich Palm blog posting?

I can’t seem to find any way other than the Palm Browser to fully post from my Palm to moveable type. I’ve tested Kablog and Blogplanet which are essentially the same java apps. I know about Pop2Blog, but I can’t set up the necessary details on my host. So far the only (and most complex) way is to login to the MT site from the Palm browser and post the way you would from any browser. This totally works as you would expect, but is not terribly efficient.

I’d love to be able to either attach an image to an email and send or find an app, like netnewswire or kung log for palm. Hand/RSS is read only rss for now…

minimal sleep…

Working on minimal sleep today… should be interesting. For some reason I was not able to get to sleep even though Hannah was ready to go for 5 hours again last night.

After much high test I am still groggy. Perhaps after lunch some faculties will return.
