Dear Nikon –
Thanks for absolutely destroying all photographic evidence of the birth of my son. Your failure to actually save any images shot (close to 100) has ruined any opportunity for a permanent record of this wonderful occasion. There are no do-overs, no next times. This was it and while it certainly looked like most of my pictures were terrific when captured and quickly reviewed on-screen, The D70s appears to have corrupted the CompactFlash card and there are NO PICTURES. The most basic function failed.
Thanks for nothing.

OTT, I've loved my Nikon, but it was my first Nikon, and first Digi… all my others were Canon… I only bought this for the deal… not the name…
Please email me (brian@briansmith.org) if you are interested in trying to recover (some) of your files off your memory card. I will give you all the help I can (for free). Don't use the memory card for *anything* in the internim–take it out of the camera and don't plug it into anything.
I just rescued some photos off of a memory card under similar circumstances. It may be very easy.
NO- what a rotten deal! Sorry to hear about it. Let's keep a little hope that you'll be able to recover some of the data. I know how angry you must feel. Such a shame when technology fails on us at the most terribly inopportune times (to say the least) like this.
On to the good news- congratulations on your son! Mine is due in just over 7 weeks- and at the rate the little fella is coming along, it's going to be a lot sooner. I came out 11 lb 7 oz, so my wife is getting pretty nervous! š

Thanks man! I was able to recover the pics as noted in the next post. I can't even tell you how devastating it was to think we'd lost those images. so glad it has been resolved!

I never was a big fan of Nikon but rather a Minolta consumer. Its true that many things changed with the entrance of the digital technology but its difficult to judge a company from one incident. there are many problematic models in all companies and all goods.
I see that this issue with Nikon hasn't stopped you from 'accepting' Nikon products for sale on your site via Swoopo and others ; )

I'd ditch Nikon pretty quickly too if that happened to me. Thank goodness you were able to retrieve the photos! My heart almost stopped when my hard drive crashed a while ago and I contemplated losing all my photos of my son.

I sympathise with your plight. As a reluctant Nikon user – I'm a civilian professional working for British Army – I know only too well the poor quality of Nikon's image storage software and always had PhotoRescue(not a plug) on hand to retrieve images.
Get a second-hand 400D. I got 10Mp for ĆĀ£250! I love Canon's C-Mos sensor and if you push to an image-stabalised lens you'll never look back!

Electronics break. Even Canons. The fault is of the “photographer” in this case. I see so many people keep their pictures on their camera for the entire life of the camera without ever downloading to their computer. After taking some shots for the day or week, plug your camera in and download the pics. Don't blame Nikon. This is your own stupidity.
Thanks for your “concern.” The pictures were gone before I left the hospital and were “saved” on a freshly formated card. I'm not a tech novice, this is and was a tech not user fail.
I was able to recover the images later, though some software assistance, but the camera and card can not be trusted.
hello, sorry to hear what happened to you, i am happy that you could recover those files.
i am a five year canon camera user. I never had any issues with the cards i have been using so far or my cameras and none of my friends who use nikon had any similar problems.
i still think that it wasn't camera's fault but a memory card failure. it usually happens when using cheap memory cards.
i think you could have the same problem with a canon, sony or whatever else.

the problem was never the Nikon. the problem is with the cheap flash card. I am a professional Photographer. I have a couple Nikons and Canons, that I use all the time and the only time I have had a problem was using a couple of cheap cards. Never had problems with Nikon even when using film.
