Apple’s new media experience

According to Think Secret, Apple is planning a serious run on the living room at MacWorld in January.

The new content system and related media deals, which will include feature-length content, expanded televisions offerings, and more, will further cement Apple’s increasing lead in digital media delivery.

In an effort to appease media companies wary of the security of digital rights management technology, Apple’s new technology will deliver content such that it never actually resides on the user’s hard drive.

Apparently this whole deal will work through a combination of your .Mac account and an intense caching / streaming piece that Apple has worked out. Assuming that H.264 can stream effectively at a high enough rate whether home or away, you could have a central source for content across a variety of machines — not too mention a reliable backup of all your premium works.
