I wrote an article a few years back (I still have it posted somewhere on my site) about Digiscents, which was a technology that was being developed to deliver smells through the web. Users were supposed to connect speaker-like devices to their PCs, through which the various aromas would waft.
Or so were told. Then came the dot-bomb!
Digiscents was doomed to fail… You’d never want to smell the carnage of Quake or Doom…
I guess it might work if you were trying to decide where to have dinner, but for most applications, it seemed silly.
