You can share the music on your iPod as if it was a playlist in iTunes over your local network which works well – exactly as you would expect it to.
You just need Music Publisher. Drag your iPod to the app’s preference panel (I had to switch the port from 3689 to 3690) and voíla! Thanks to Jason Snell on the SliMP3 mailing list for the tip!
So publisher works, but it won’t share my AAC files. Is that a common problem, or does it Music Publisher just not recognize AAC files?
Good question – no idea. Don’t think I’ve tried that specifically.
I tried Music Publisher, but it does not share playlists and there is no way to create them on the shared computer. I found a great Applescript on OSX Hints that imports the titles, but not the files the the sharing computer. It is easy then to replicate or duplicate playlists that show on the guest computer Itunes. I share my Mac Ipod with my office XP and it works fine. Here’s the link http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040421134635568. The script needed a little tweaking, basically removing some weird symbols and deleting spaces.
Is there a windows version of this?
I don’t think there is…
