Jay Leno will retire from NBC’s “The Tonight Show” in 2009, when “Late Night” host Conan O’Brien will take over as host on television’s most-watched nighttime talk show. [WSJ]
That’s a long time to sit in the 12:30 am slot and could possibly mean Jon Stewart gets a head start when he takes over Letterman’s spot in a few years.
I had not heard that John Stewart was on that track, or if I did it completely slipped my mind.
It’s been whispered for quite a now and there’s clearly interest from a number of sources to bring Stewart to network. Stewart is signed at comedy central through the next election, but seeing as how both networks are in Viacom’s pocket, it would be short work to get him out of it.
Love to see it…
It would be a very new ratings war between the two of them since they are so much edgier than the guys on the air today.
