iPhone – cool has its price

According to iSuppli via AppleInsider, Apple is to see near 50% gross margin on each iPhone sale. This is amazingly only a touch higher than they see on iMac and iPod sales…

  1. Man, these iSuppli “reports” always chafe me, since they don’t take into account *any* R&D, etc. And how can iSuppli seriously contend that they know all of Apple’s manufacturing costs, when, to my knowledge, it’s still undetermined who’s manufacturing iPhones?
Also, it seems kind of funny to present this BoM when people can only guess who makes the *actual processor* in the iPhone, with ARM seeming to be the thinking man’s guess, but it’s still just a guess.

  2. I hear you – though it’s a good guess from people far more connected to the component costs than we are. 50% seems pretty high to me – though Apple is pretty damn smart and quite cash rich as well. 😉
