Getting Ready for Mobile World Congress in Barcelona!

I started pulling my gear together tonight and as you can see here I’ve got a lot of goodies ready to go.

On the software side I’m ready with Qik, Flixwagon, Fon, Boingo and Devicescape as well as mobile blogging via Maemo Wordpy on the Nokia N810 so I’m feeling good about my travel kit.

If you are going to be there, let’s try to meet up! I’m really looking forward to meeting as many people as possible!

  1. How did you get Devicescape running on your Nokia N810?

I really don’t understand how to use Devicescape on my Nokia N810, although I am a happy long time user on the Nokia E61.

On the Nokia N810 there is no button “Update my networks” and it doesn’t put in the Wifi password on my behalf. There is just the red symbol of Devicescape on top of the screen, but it does nothing.

When I log in into a Wifi network I have to type in the credentials into the N810’s own Wifi software. After that, I get a Devicescape button that says “Connect”.

But what is this button for?

Why is there no “Update my networks” button? I have stored already many Wifi credentials at Devicescape, expecially free hotspots. I would love if it could work like on my Nokia E61: Wherever I am in coverage of such a hotspot, I get an access point called “Devicescape” to connect. So I don’t have to remember and type in again all their login credentials.

    What am I doing wrong?

Of course I have “Autoconnect” enabled, but this doesn’t help either. Until now Devicescape is just a useless red button on my Nokia N810. Also a longer internet investigation could not help to solve the problem.

Please help me! Thanks a lot.

  2. I don’t actually see if working much myself and don’t even have it installed currently. The idea is that for portal based login services you can skip it if you’ve set that account up online first … I’ve found Boingo is similar and can work with Devicescape as well though clearly only works for it’s partner services
