Shozu – I miss you

Since updating the software on my N73, I’ve been unable to install Shozu which is probably one of the most used pieces of software I had. I just get an “unable to install” error after downloading and selecting the phone as the install location…

I’ve posted this on the Shozu forum for help, but have yet to see any response. Anyone else run into anything similar? I need my Shozu back!

  1. It might be a matter of how you updated your firmware. Every time I do it, here’s the steps:

    1. Backup Backup Backup
    2. Format the memory card in the phone
    3. Take the memory card out of the phone
    4. Hard Reset the phone (*#7270#)
    5. If you have a card reader, put the memory card in there, and drag and drop all your .sis files
    6. install your file browser first (using the phone’s built-in browser)
    7. using your file browser of choice, go down your list installing all your apps

The reason this works is if you don’t format the memory card, when you power your phone back on after the update, it automatically attempts to re-install the apps on your card. Sometimes this hangs/gets stuck and you’re screwed.

This happened to me with Fring recently, I had forgotten to format my memory card. When I followed the steps above, it worked fine.

  2. That is certainly far more aggressive than what I did – though I did backup first. I don’t see any unknown elements on my card (via the apps manager) and I’m trying to install on the phone itself so I am not sure what the issue is.

Incidentally – since I posted here, vs. the Shozu forum, they’ve been actively responding on my thread there… 😉

  3. Since I changed MiniSD card, I can’t get it to run on my N80i. It never would run on my N93. And I haven’t tried it on the N73, mostly due to lack of WiFi.

Shozu is the singe best 3rd party app for any mobile OS I’ve seen. I hate that it quit working on the N80i and doesn’t work on my N93. Works fine on my Treo700w, but adds no value there.

  4. It does not work on the N80 IE either. They finally responded to me today saying that they do not support this and other newer phones. It was my most used app on a previous phone also. Bummer.

  5. Shozu was working, pre-software update. Now it just won’t even install…. It works on my N80ie and N93

This actually cripples my usage substantially as I used Shozu daily.

  6. Hi guys,
I’ve tried replicating the exact scenario with your firmware upgrade and have replied to your thread on the forum here http://forum.shozu.com/showthread.php?tid=475

In regards to the N80i, we are working on supporting this model and we hope to in future. It’s just not supported currently due to memory issues with the IE firmware, but we hope to be able to work around these.

If you continue to have trouble with supported handsets, feel free to drop me an email at support@shozu.com and I can shoot you a copy of an older version.

    Cheers,
    Mark
