Borderless iPhoto Printing?

Has anyone figured out how to print a borderless shot with iPhoto?

I’ve tried many different paper types and have found it impossible. The result is always a white border on 2 sides for 4×6 prints. When I use the card from my camera directly in my printer – an HP Photosmart 7960 – it works great. It’s easy to print from the printer, but it would be nice to select from our collection and print from the computer without having to copy to the card first…

eMail2Pop for Gmail and AOL

Windows only…you can of course use your regular email software setup for IMAP for AOL, but this is a nice additional option for Gmail… hopefully the Gmail will support client software interaction soon after launch.

POP3 and SMTP access to AOL Mail and Gmail accounts. eMail2Pop converts AOL and Gmail mail into a standard mail format. This means that users can retrieve their AOL / Gmail mail from almost any email program (Microsoft Outlook, Eudora mail, Incredimail, etc) instead of using proprietary mail software. [eMail2Pop]

The Print Shop Mac OS X Edition

PrintShop was seriously fun application for me and my sister when we first got our Apple IIc… Amazing that it’s making a return after all these years later. It will probably be fun again with my daughter in a few years…

Over the years, The Print Shop, a popular design and desktop-publishing package for creating greeting cards, calendars, labels, and similar projects, has come and gone. Now, thanks to its new developer, Software MacKiev, this long-missed program is back on the Mac and better than ever. The Print Shop Mac OS X Edition 1.0 is versatile, elegant, and easy to use, and it integrates seamlessly with other Mac applications, such as Apple’s iPhoto, iTunes, iCal, and Address Book. More Gmail…

I’ve got more Gmail invites to give away. 2 of 3 are spoken for… though not given out given the last round. That leaves one more for someone else reading this.

ImageBuddy 3

Looks good…

Kepmad Systems announced on Monday the release of ImageBuddy 3.0, the new version of its photo printing tool that also expands iPhoto’s printing options through drag-and-drop support. The upgrade adds higher resolution printing, mouse scroll wheel support, rotate text support, the ability to add transparent background images to page layouts, bug fixes and more. A single-user license is US$19, while a household license covering one to three computers is $26 and a site license is $400. System requirements call for Mac OS X v10.1 or higher and 30MB hard drive space; the developer notes that RAM is not an issue under Mac OS X. [MacCentral]

Pixingo PhotoFirst

Pixingo PhotoFirst looks like a very powerful way to manage digital workflow for professional photographers… Looks good for amateurs as well! Just starting to play with it… there’s a 30 day demo.

BackUp Buddy 2.0

Backup Buddy has always been a great piece of software…

Blue Nomad has released BackupBuddy 2.0. BackupBuddy 2.0 is the first product available that uses a unique process for backing up devices and storing all changes made to the device since the last backup in a database enabling users to restore a device to any point in time.

Because BackupBuddy now contains a complete history of any given device’s files and settings, users can restore individual files or their entire device to any previous point in time with the simple click of a button, a process called ZoomBack. BackupBuddy 2.0, when used with a Palm Powered device, provides a complete backup solution for both consumer and enterprise customers. [PalmInfocenter]

Firefox needs better window control

Firefox is a great browser… it’s standards compliant, fast and has some really great features for managing privacy. What it’s missing though drives me a tad nutty…

Any new window that opens, cascades rather than opens directly on top of the previous window. When you are running in full screen, this means that the new window opens with a portion under the dock (assuming your dock is on the bottom as mine happens to be). I have to move each new window back up to the top left each time.

Speaking of new windows… there really needs to be built-in way to control links from external applications… As if the new window bit I just mentioned was not annoying enough, imagine the number of windows you might get if you like to open a few links from mail or your newsreader before checking things out… If there was a simple pref to set for external links to open in new tabs, I’d be very happy and would use Firefox most likely as my default browser.

Since Apple released OS 10.3.4, I’ve played with Safari again, and appreciate it, but prefer Camino if if it’s pre-release and has a few bugs…

Mail.appetizer 1.0rc1

Mail.appetizer has been updated and now allows for some nice tweaks as noted below… Mail.appetizer creates a floating window to pop-up with news message previews when you are working in other applications.

# Resizable notification window
# Custom font for the message body
# Displays sender’s photo signature
# Counter showing number of outstanding messages
# Shows mailbox name (optionally) [MacUpdate]

AOL Launches Instant Messaging Business Services

Through deals with WebEx and Lightbridge, AOL is bringing a significant bump in functionality to the business user… According to AOL, it’s “becoming the new phone.”

NEW YORK (Reuters) – America Online, the world’s largest Internet service provider, on Thursday said it had launched a service that lets users conduct audio conference calls and share online presentations over its popular instant messaging service. [Yahoo! News]

I’d love to see iChatAV support this as well…

Kitten’s Spam Words 1.1

Installing this now… I’ve been pretty lucky on the spam front since my move to wordpress, but this is a great sounding tool to prevent repeat attempts.

This plugin adds a “Delete comments as spam” button to the mass editing of comments page. When used to delete unwanted comments, the email address, url, and IP address will be added to your spam words list (SWL). Future comments matching any of those items will automatically be moderated. [Kitten’s Project Blog]

I had an issue getting this to install on my 1.3 pre-alpha system… probably related to some DB changes that occur in each update. Hopefully I’ll have this running soon.

Creo Six Degrees 2.0

Creo Six Degrees 2.0 was recently released and includes a free version as well as more expensive $99 Personal, $199 Anywhere Edition and a $299 Workflow Edition. I could see wanting to use this up to the Anywhere edition as a single user if you needed the mobile (Palm or Blackberry) connection.

Basically, Six Degrees is Zoe, but with a revised UI and seemingly more features that currently don’t work for me since I am not using Entourage or Outlook. It’s quite easy to import messages from mail accounts (POP or IMAP) and have your information indexed and cross-linked with contacts, conversations, projects and files. It’s a very nice idea that while it takes a bit of getting used to can be quite helpful.

At the moment, I’m giving the free version a shot… It automatically imports my mail at a set interval so my datafile is always current. I’ve found from my Zoe experience, that leaving this running in the background is simple to do — it’s actually invisible, with no app running in the dock. When you need to reference something the server is running — it’s your computer after-all. You simple queue up the browser of your choice and search or browse away. A quick keyword search reveals pretty much anything your messaging clients have touched and with whom you’ve been in contact. You can easily create more conversations simply by initiating an email which then links back to your mail client.

I’ve used Zoe for quite a while, and while it’s far from a daily thing, it’s been very helpful in tracking down messages and discussions not easily found for whatever reason in my local app. I imagine that Six Degrees will work quite similarly…
